The Adoption of Persistent Identifier (PIDs) in MENA: Challenges and Opportunities (Arabic)

**This event is hosted in Arabic. If you are interested in the subject and wish to attend in English, register for our April activity with Datacite**

This 1.5-hour workshop aims to introduce participants to the use of Persistent Identifier (PIDs) in Open Research practices across the MENA region, looking at what they offer to the research infrastructure and to the scientific community as a whole.

‘The Adoption of Persistent Identifier (PIDs) in MENA: Challenges and Opportunities’ will present the current challenges and solutions presented when implementing PIDs in the MENA region. Participants will gain an understanding of the global Open Infrastructure landscape and how PIDs are being used on global and national levels. They will also learn about DataCite’s role in fostering the adoptions of PIDs, improving accessibility, and enabling communities in lesser represented regions to further benefit from our open infrastructure services through the Global Access Program (GAP).

During this workshop, we will explore the importance and benefits of implementing PIDs for the entirely scholarly ecosystem, and will cover the following items:

  • Introduction about PIDs
  • Global landscape for PIDs adoptions
  • Regional challenges (awareness and technical)
  • DataCite’s role in fostering the regional adoptions
  • Global Access Program
  • MENA Case Studies

The event is designed for all librarians, repostory managers, researchers, data and information specialists, policy makers, university representatives, Open Science advocates and all stakeholders of the scholarly publishing system in the Arab world.
