Workshop

How can Open Science transform regional research landscapes and promote global knowledge equity? This workshop moves beyond the “what” of Open Science to the “how,” specifically focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities within India and the MENA region. We will dissect the limitations of traditional metrics-driven evaluation and explore how Open Access models and practical “openness” can be embedded across the entire research lifecycle. Join us to move from theory to action, developing a personal roadmap for research that is transparent, accessible, and deeply impactful.

Agenda:

  • Regional Landscape: Analyzing the shift from metrics-driven evaluation to Open Access models in India and MENA.
  • The Open Lifecycle: Practical steps for integrating pre-registration, preprints, and FAIR/CARE data sharing into your workflow.
  • Interactive Strategy: Hands-on discussion to identify local challenges and develop a personalized Open Science action plan.

What you will learn:

  • Critique the impact of traditional metrics on regional research and advocate for the benefits of Open Access models.
  • Apply FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and CARE (Collective Benefit, Authority to Control, Responsibility, Ethics) data principles to their own research outputs.
  • Integrate open practices—such as pre-registration, preprints, and open peer review—into their existing research workflows.
  • Identify and utilize open-source tools that facilitate collaboration and increase research transparency.
  • Construct a concrete, actionable personal plan to transition toward a more open and equitable research methodology.
