We are proud to announce our support of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information, reaffirming its commitment to fostering openness, transparency, and collaboration in research across the MENA region.
The Barcelona Declaration, a landmark initiative in the global open research movement, outlines key principles aimed at advancing the accessibility and impact of research outputs. We are particularly proud of the Declaration’s commitment to fostering inclusive research practices that encourage the inputs of researchers across underrepresented regions within the Global South. By supporting this declaration, we pledge to champion its principles and promote their adoption throughout the region.
Key highlights of our support include:
- Advocating for the adoption of Open Access policies by research institutions and funders in the MENA region.
- Encouraging researchers to openly share their research findings, data, and other outputs to facilitate collaboration and accelerate scientific progress.
- Supporting the development and implementation of infrastructure and tools that enable the open dissemination of research information.
- Advocating for inclusive and equitable access to research outputs for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and the public across the Arab world.
Once more, we applaud the efforts of the organisers and signatories of the Barcelona Declaration and are excited to see what lies ahead for the world of Open Science!
