Advancing Open Access to Scholarly Publishing Journals: Increasing DOAJ's Coverage in Northern African Countries
In this 1-hour webinar, Professor Kamel Belhamel (Managing editor of DOAJ), will explore the open access landscape in Northern Africa.
The first half of the webinar will look at the barriers faced by scholarly publications when looking to develop and implement open access publishing practices. In the second half of this webinar, Professor Kamel will discuss the benefits for open access journals of being indexed in DOAJ, give some tips on DOAJ evaluation metrics, and explain what editorial boards can do to maximise their chances of acceptance into the index.
‘Advancing Open Access to Scholarly Publishing Journals: Increasing DOAJ’s Coverage in Northern African Countries’ was held in French. However, the presentation slides within the recording provide an English translation of what is being discussed.
This online activity aimed to:
- Offer an expert overview of the open-access publishing landscape in Northern Africa, and identify some of the key challenges faced by open-access journals in the region – and the solutions to these problems.
- Explore how DOAJ can help to increase the impact of their journals (and thereby contribute to healthy submission pipelines and greater future indexing potential)
- Guide participants on how to prepare their journals for submission to DOAJ, and maximise their chances of acceptance into the index.
